Visita ufficiale in Italia della Relatrice Speciale delle Nazioni Unite sulla tratta di esseri umani
GINEVRA (10 settembre 2013) – La Relatrice Speciale delle Nazioni Unite sulla tratta di esseri umani, in particolare donne e bambini, la signora Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, visiterá l’Italia dal 12 al 20 settembre 2013 per esaminare la situazione delle vittime e per valutare l’impatto dei provvedimenti anti-tratta adottati nel paese.
“Durante questa visita incontrerò una vasta gamma di attori che lavorano sulla questione e le vittime stesse per poter ascoltare direttamente le loro storie ed esperienze,” ha affermato l’esperta independente nominata dal Consiglio dei Diritti Umani delle Nazioni Unite con il mandato di operare per la prevenzione della tratta di persone in tutte le sue forme e incoraggiare l’adozione di provvedimenti per la protezione dei diritti umani delle vittime.
“Nel corso di questa visita, intendo anche identificare delle pratiche ed esperienze positive” ha dichiarato la signora Ezeilo, “ma anche esaminare gli ostacoli eventuali che si frappongono alle attività di contrasto e prevenzione della tratta di esseri umani in Italia”. “Ho intenzione di porre particolare attenzione alle misure messe in atto per proteggere le vittime e per dare loro la possibilità di trovare un rimedio efficace alle violazioni subite e alla loro situazione.”
Nel corso della visita la Relatrice Speciale si recherà a Roma, Venezia, Torino e in Campania dove incontrerà funzionari governativi a livello nazionale e locale, rappresentanti di istituzioni specializzate coinvolte nella lotta contro la tratta, rappresentanti di agenzie delle Nazioni Unite, di organizzazioni internazionali, della società civile, nonchè singoli individui e le vittime di tratta.
Le conclusioni e raccomandazioni finali della Relatrice Speciale – la cui visita è stata organizzata in seguito all’invito aperto del Governo italiano alle procedure special – saranno presentate in un rapporto che verrà discusso al Consiglio dei Diritti Umani delle Nazioni Unite nel giugno 2014.
La signora Ezeilo presenterà le sue osservazioni preliminari in una Conferenza Stampa che si terrà a Roma il prossimo 20 settembre 2013 alle ore 12.30, presso la sede della SIOI (Società Italiana per l’Organizzazione Internazionale) in Piazza S. Marco 51.
Joy Ngozi Ezeilo (Nigeria) ha iniziato il suo mandato di Relatore Speciale sulla tratta di esseri umani, in particolare donne e bambini, nell’agosto 2008. E’ independente da qualsiasi governo e il suo lavoro si basa sulla sua esperienza e sulle sue capacità professionali. La dott.ssa Ezeilo è un’avvocato specializzato in diritti umani nonché professoressa dell’Università della Nigeria. Ha collaborato con varie istituzioni governative ed è stata consulente di numerose organizzazioni internazionali. Ha al suo attivo numerose pubblicazioni su temi quali Diritti Umani, Diritti delle Donne e Diritto Islamico. Official mission to Italy by the UN Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons
GENEVA (10 September 2013) – The United Nations Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, will visit Italy from 12 to 20 September 2013 to examine the situation of trafficked individuals and assess the impact of anti-trafficking measures in the country.
“During my mission, I wish to reach out to a wide range of stakeholders and trafficked persons themselves, so that their voices are heard and can be considered in the Government’s responses to combatting human trafficking,” said the independent expert designated by the UN Human Rights Council to promote the prevention of trafficking in persons in all its forms and to encourage measures to uphold and protect the human rights of victims.
“I hope to identify good practices as well as remaining obstacles in fighting and preventing human trafficking in Italy”, Ms. Ezeilo said. “Particular attention will be given to measures taken to protect victims of trafficking and provide them with access to effective remedies.”
The Special Rapporteur’s visit to Italy will take her to Rome, Venice, Turin and the area of Naples where she will meet relevant national and local government officials, specialized national institutions involved in the fight against trafficking in persons, as well as representatives of UN agencies, other international organizations, civil society, and victims of trafficking or their representatives.
Ms. Ezeilo, who visits the country at the invitation of the Government, will present her findings and recommendations in a comprehensive report to the Human Rights Council in 2014.The independent human rights expert will share her preliminary observations and recommendations at a press conference in Rome on 20 September 2013, at the Italian Society for International Organization (SIOI) in Piazza S. Marco 51, at 12h30.
Joy Ngozi Ezeilo (Nigeria) started her mandate as Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially in women and children in August 2008. She is independent from any government and serves in her individual capacity. Ms. Ezeilo is a human rights lawyer and professor at the University of Nigeria. She has served in various governmental capacities and consulted for various international organizations. She has published extensively on a variety of topics, including human rights, women’s rights, and Sharia law.
